Tacky or Necessary? Poodle grooming and clothing
Image from google images: Standard Poodle Trim
You see poodles with these fancy hair cuts and some with clothing on. Is this actually necessary? The answer is yes!
It is actually very important that the poodle’s fur be trimmed and kept neat and tidy. Poodles, unlike other dog breeds, have more of a human hair texture rather than the average dog fur texture, thus causing more time and care. It’s best to have their fur trimmed once every month (depending on the breed.)
As for clothing – it is also very important that a poodle’s exposed skin remains covered in the sun. For a poodle to go outside in the sun unclothed is the same as you or I going out in the sun naked – without sun lotion. No protection equals plenty of sun damage and pain.
So, if you have a poodle, remember to get their fur trimmed and keep them covered. There’s nothing worse than a poodle with knotted fur and a nasty burn. It makes them cranky and could cause them to become sick.
